The Railway Motel is in the township of Myrtleford in Northeast Victoria. Myrtleford is central to many towns in the Alpine region. Bright, Beechworth, Yackandandah, Wangaratta are just a few towns located within a 30min drive from Myrtleford. 

The motel is situated 140m from the famous Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail, cyclists can enjoy the magnificent scenic beauty of the Alpine High Country, Ovens and King Valleys and Everton hills. The Rail Trail is a fully sealed cycle path along the old Wangaratta to Bright railway line which has now just extended to Harrietville. The trail suits all riding abilities with gentle gradients and spectacular views along the way.

One of the most popular rides is from Myrtleford to Bright with many great locations to stop along the way such as The Old Factory, Ovens Hotel, Buffalo Berry Farm, Ringer Reef Winery are just to name a few. 

Another great spot to visit when you’re visiting Myrtleford is Lake Buffalo which is located a short drive along Buffalo River Road. It lies at the foot of the western slope of Mount Buffalo National Park and is popular fishing, water skiing and picnicking venue. 


During Winter the Alpine Snowfields near Myrtleford (Mount Buffalo, Mount Hotham, Falls Creek) offer fantastic skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. Mount Buffalo is our closest snowfield and a great place for the family to visit all year round. During Winter snow chains are required to travel up the mountains. You can hire these from Porepunkah Ski Hire which is in the township of Porepunkah before you head up the mountain.
